Lonar Crater Trip

Lonar Crater : It may look like an ordinary oval-shaped lake surrounded by hills but it’s a lot more than just a pretty scenery. Legend has it that this lake was a result of a meteor impact on Earth, the timing of which is estimated to be over 50,000 years ago according to geological studies. (That’s way more time than what you’d have to wait for the entire Game of Thrones series to download in full HD!) About Lonar Crater The Lonar crater was formed by the impact of a mere chip of the moon that weighed more than a million ton! The water in this lake is both saline as well as alkaline in nature. This “bowl of biodiversity” attracts many ecologists, geologists, astronomers and curious laymen alike. Discovered not more than 57 years before the neighbouring world famous Ajanta caves, the Lonar also contains traces of moon minerals. It is the youngest and best preserved impact crater formed in the Deccan Plateau’s tough basalt rock, the only of its kind on earth. A number of migratory birds can be seen around even though the lake does not support any marine life like fish etc. The winged creatures feed on a unique kind of green algae found there. Apart from that, species like parakeet and peafowl can be commonly seen. The temples in the lake’s vicinity have their own stories to tell. The Daityasudan Temple, that was built to worship Lord Vishnu, looks like a replica of the Konark Sun Temple albeit without the chariot wheels. A Hanuman Temple near the lake has an idol apparently made out of the meteor rock having magnetic properties. With so many things to discover, this trip surely offers a 360 degree learning experience. Date : 25th - 28th December 2020   Travel Suggestions Hey Folks! For Mumbai locals, Lonar tour is just a bus away. You can contact 9820022466 for Lonar Schedule and book your most suited bus for reaching the destination. We recommend AC sleeper or AC Semi Sleeper. The Costing for the same will be round about 2500 Rs:- Return Journey. (Bus price may change later on) read more read less

Christmas Special Mukta Top Himalayan Trek from Mumbai Grade: Easy to Moderate A hidden Kohinoor in the diamond necklace of Uttarakhand, Mukta Top is an easy – moderate summit winter trek offering a white carpet of snow and views of majestic snow clad peaks of the Gangotri and Bandarpooch Ranges of the Himalayas. The best part of this trek is the experience of isolation. This trek has received very little footfall and hence, silence is of permanence in these untouched mountains. The trail offers plenty of forest-walk, since the first 2 days of the trek will be under shade and canopy of the trees. You see plenty of bamboo forests, you seldom see such forests on other treks. And as you go further up, you see rhododendrons, maples, ancient oak trees and pines. The forests are dense and as mysterious as forest-lovers wish them to be. After the forest trails end, the trail opens up to meadows, revealing few of Uttarakhand’s high mountain peaks. And from the summit, you get a 360 degree view of all of these mountains! On a clear day, you spot the Mt Jaonli (6632 m), the Gangotri Peak (6577 m), Mt Kalanag (6387 m), Bandarpoonch 1 (6316 m) and 2 (6102 m), Draupadi Ka Danda 1 (5716 m) and Draupadi Ka Danda 2 (5670 m). You also spot the trekkable Nag Tibba top (3022 m). This trek is a perfect choice for a trekker who wants an isolated, secluded winter trek! Date : 25th - 30th December 2020 (Ex Dehradun)   Important Note: We strongly recommend to all the participants to do a COVID test before travelling to Uttarakhand /Himachal or any other long tour. We also recommend to all the participants to give RT-PCR test not less than 96 hours before the travel and carry COVID negative certificates with them. Doing a test strongly reduces the probability of participants coming to the mountains as asymptomatic carriers. It makes it a lot safer for all the participants and staffs in the team.
