An important commercial and industrial center in India, this metro city is renowned for its rich cotton textiles, never-to-be-missed street food places like Manek Chowk, Diamond Cutting, places of historical significance like Gandhi Ashram, Teen Darwaza, Kankariya Lake, Adalaj Vaav and the mesmerizing and absorbing Trimandir and Sabarmati Riverfront.
One of the oldest places in Ahmedabad, Manek Chowk is a bustling open square named after saint Maneknath. This square functions as a vegetable market in the morning, jewellery market in the afternoon and an array of countless food stalls at night. Manek Chowk also houses a few historical places like Rani No Haziro, Badshah No Haziro, Ahmedabad Stock Exchange etc.
Gandhi Ashram is another significant place that has been attracting tourists from India and all over the world. A residence of Mahatma Gandhi, this ashram located along the banks of Sabarmati River has a unique charm to it as it fills visitors’ heart with a sense of serenity, and takes them back to the Gandhian era.
Kankariya Lake located in Maninagar, Ahmedabad is the 2nd largest lake in Gujarat. It traces its roots to Chalukya period though the lake was completed during the reign of Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II. In fact, Kankariya lakefront also has a vast zoo, joy rides, light shows, an Adventure Park, tourist attraction places, food stalls etc. It’s a perfect place where one can enjoy a fun day with the family.
Akshardham Mandir situated in Gandhinagar is bliss to visitors’ eyes. The feeling that one gets to experience in this temple is incomparable. Adalaj Vaav (Stepwell) is another place of tourist attraction, an architectural wonder that is sure to leave you enchanted. This 5-storey deep well was built by Queen Rudadevi of the Vaghela dynasty, in memory of her husband King Rana Veer Singh.
Day 0: Thursday, 9th January 2020
Reach Mumbai Central at 09:30 pm and meet fellow Trikonians. Start your Ahmedabad expedition by boarding 12901, Gujarat Mail. It will be an overnight train journey
Day 1: Friday, 10th January 2020
07.00 am: You will reach Ahmedabad by 07:00 am. Proceed towards your place of stay at the hotel/dharamshala
08:30 am: Reach the Hotel/Dharamshala, relish on some lips-smacking breakfast and freshen up to proceed for Adalaj Stepwell.
11:00 am: Reach and explore Adalaj Stepwell. Feast your eyes on its intricate architecture and get to know its historical significance.
01:00 pm: Get back to Hotel/Dharamshala. Enjoy your lunch and take rest.
03:30 pm. Freshen up to leave for Akshardham Temple followed by enthralling laser show in evening.
09:00 pm. After enjoying a sumptuous dinner, get back to Hotel/Dharamshala and rest for the day.
Day 2: Saturday, 11th January 2020
05:30 am. Good Morning Trikoners! Freshen up, go for a morning walk and soak in some pure air of Apnu Ahmedabad.
07:30 am. Have your breakfast and get ready for Gandhi Ashram.
11:00 am. Reach Gandhi Ashram and explore this abode of Mahatma Gandhi. A trip to this Ashram is highly fulfilling as you will not just gain an insight into freedom struggle movement or Mahatma’s teachings but will also learn how simple living and high thinking can have a profound effect on the world around us.
01:00 pm. Reach Hotel/Dharamshala, have lunch and take rest.
03:00 pm. Good Afternoon Trikoners…. It’s time for KAI PO CHHE at Sabarmati Riverfront.
04:00 pm. Reach Sabarmati Riverfront and enjoy the Kite festival. You will witness a variety of kites. You can also bring your own kites to fly. The riverfront also houses breath-taking gardens, thrilling amusement parks, golf courses and water sports parks.
08:30 pm. Enjoy your dinner on the way or at Sabarmati Riverfront.
09:30 pm. Reach Hotel/Dharamshala, freshen up, relax and have a good night’s sleep.
Day 3: Sunday, 12th January 2020
06:30 am. Good Morning Trikoners… time for a morning walk (optional)|
07:30 am. After relishing on breakfast, freshen up, pack your bags and leave for Kankariya Lake.
11:00 am: Reach Kankariya Lake, the 2nd largest lake in Gujarat. You can also do few activities like Boat Ride, Train Ride, Jungle and much more…
02:00 pm: Post lunch, leave for Manek Chowk.
04:00 pm: Reach Manek Chowk and explore this vivid place. You would be delighted at the sight of variety of items available for shopping here. Also witness Teen Darwaza, Rani No Hajiro, Raja No Hajiro.
08:00 pm: Have dinner at the culinary haven Manek Chowk and leave for Ahmedabad station.
09:30 pm: Reach Ahmedabad station and catch 10:05 pm, 12902 Gujarat Mail for Mumbai. It will be an overnight train journey.
Day 4: 13th January 2020
06:35 am: Reach Mumbai Central. Head back home with bountiful memories of your Ahmedabad trip.
