Leh – Ladakh Adventure Tour via Atal Tunnel (Manali to Leh)

One of the most celebrated high altitude roads in India is NH 3, which connects Manali to Leh via Atal Tunnel,

We would take the road from Manali to Jispa, covering many small villages and towns finally reaching Leh after crossing Sarchu. After reaching Leh, the trip will be extended to Pangong Tso and majestic Nubra Valley via Khardung La (The highest motorable road in the world) along with rafting activities in the Zanskar River and other excursions, depending upon the weather conditions.

Itinerary

Day 1: Friday - Delhi to Manali(Overnight Journey)

Meet your Trikon buddy at Majnu Ka Tila. Board the bus for Manali.

Day 2: Saturday - Manali

Arrive in Manali early in the morning. Relax and rest after a long journey. 

During the day, we visit Jana falls to take a shot at authentic local Himachali food. Later, give your muscles a treat by taking a dip into the hot water springs. 

Pack up, get ready for the adventure that begins on the following day

Day 3: Sunday - Drive from Manali to Sarchu via Atal Tunnel

Not more than an hour into your drive, you reach the novel Atal Tunnel! Drive through this engineering masterpiece as in no time you get to the magical land of Lahaul. 

Lahaul is undoubtedly the most beautiful part of the drive with a perfect mix of green and brown. 

Reach Sarchu by evening, which also marks the end of Himachal Pradesh and movement into Leh & Ladakh.

Day 4: Monday - Sarchu to Leh – 350 km, 8-10 hours /Overnight stay in Leh              

Drive from Keylong to Leh through Tanglang La, the second-highest motorable road in the world. At a remarkable altitude of 17,582 feet, the road is full of tricky turns and rock-strewn paths. Arrive in Leh, check-in to your hotel for a delightful stay.

Day 5: Tuesday - River Rafting in Zanskar and Local Sightseeing

We drive out to Chilling, along the River Zanskar, where we begin our 14 km river rafting adventure from. This route has up to 3+ Grade rapids. It offers majestic views of the mountains along the way while you enjoy the thrill in the chilling waters. Also, we visit the various tourist spots like Hall of Fame, Magnetic Hill, Stok Palace, etc..

Day 6: Wednesday - Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La - 125 km, 4-5 hours /Overnight stay at Nubra Valley

We cross Khardung La, situated at 18,380ft, the world’s highest motorable road, to enter into Nubra Valley. Sandwiched between the Karakoram Range to the north and Ladakh range to the south, lie the Shyok and Nubra Rivers. The villages of Nubra are scattered along with these two valley floors. Given the relatively low altitude, a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains are grown. We visit the Diskit Monastery, a 550-year old historic place before getting into the majestic Nubra Valley, where we stay overnight in fixed tents under the star-filled night skies.

Day 7: Thursday - Nubra to Pangong Tso via Shyok, Visit Sand Dunes, and Camel Safari - 140 km (4-5 hours) / Overnight stay at Pangong

After an early breakfast, we visit the white sand dunes at Hunder, a rare cold desert at this altitude. Ride the unique double-humped Bactrian camels here, the only place in the entire world where they can be found!
The most fascinating highlight of any Leh trip, today we pay a visit to Pangong Lake, which is the largest brackish water lake in Asia. Two-thirds of the lake lies in China. To get there, we travel via a road parallel to the River Shyok. Enjoy the evening by the lakeside reveling in the glorious colors of nature, a class apart from any other such sight. If you happen to be here around New Moon, enjoy the splendid view of a star-studded Milky Way galaxy at night. Sleep tight!

Day 8: Friday - Pangong Tso to Leh – 150 km (4-5 hours) / Overnight stay in Leh

The morning’s here! We wake up to an enchanting sunrise over Pangong Tso and later head
back towards Leh. On our way, we halt by the famed Hemis and Thiksey Monasteries. On
reaching Leh, rest and retire for the day.

Day 9: Saturday - Departure

Time to fly back home from Leh! The trip concludes with happy memories!


Travel Suggestions

  • As regards arrival, you can take an overnight bus from Delhi/ Chandigarh a day before the trip begins, so that you arrive in Manali on Day 1 by 8 am.

  • As regards departure, you can opt for any flight out of Leh in the morning of Day 9 post 7 am.


Things to Carry

  • One valid Identity Proof, along with a Photocopy

  • Water Bottles

  • A lightweight Haversack or Backpack, and a smaller Day Sack

  • Good pair of trekking shoes, and a pair of flip-flops

  • Woolen Gloves, woolen socks, Monkey Cap/Balaclava, Neck Scarf

  • Thermal Inners

  • Snow Jackets and Fleece Jackets

  • Waterproof gloves and windcheater/poncho

  • Personal clothing

  • Cap, sunglasses, scarf

  • Camera, Binoculars (Optional)

  • Headlamp / LED Torch

  • Toiletries – Sunscreen, Moisturizer, Light towel, Lip balm, Wet wipes, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Hand Sanitizer

  • Extra Polythene Bags (To segregate used/ unused garments, wet/ dry clothing)

  • Any medicines that you consume normally, post consulting a doctor

  • Mosquito repellent

  • Snacks & Biscuits to munch on (Optional)

  • Enerzyl Powder or Glucon D powder

 

Consuming liquor or any kind of Alcoholic substance is prohibited. Carrying any kind of substance that’s illegal is not allowed. Smoking is strictly not allowed. Anybody found smoking or consuming alcoholic drinks will be expelled from the event without refund.

Fitness & Health – Though trekking is a fun-filled activity, it demands good amount of physical fitness. If you are under medication, please carry your medicines. During the trek, leaders will have over the counter medication for temporary treatment, so do give a heads up to them if you need any medical assistance.
