Places to Visit & Importance
Sri Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as Golden temple
Known as one of the holiest Gurdwara in India, Golden temple welcomes each and all with open arms. With no caste differentiation, it stands as a symbol of human brotherhood and equality. The Golden Temple Amritsar India (Sri Harmandir Sahib Amritsar) has a unique Sikh architecture. Watching the enlightened golden temple at night is a spectacular experience.
Jallianwala Baug Massacre
The bloodshed of over 1,000 peaceful protestors by the British Army in a walled public garden in Amritsar in 1919. There has built a memorial in the memory of peaceful people which has been marked as a national significant place. Due to open blind firing done under the command of the then senior British military officer Reginald Edward Harry Dyer, the massacre took place, killing thousands of innocent citizens including women and kids. You can read about the history and pay homage the soul and salute the martyrs.
Wagah Border
The border crossing draws its name from Wagah, near which the Radcliffe Line, the boundary demarcation line dividing India and Pakistan upon the Partition of British India, was drawn. At the time of independence in 1947, migrants from India entered Pakistan through this border crossing. The place is quite popular for the daily parade marsh and flag show, two hours before sunset. Many travellers gather at the Wagah border to witness this show, truly a patriotic feeling.
