  1. What is Jog Falls and Where is it?

It is called as Joga Gundi and the word Joga in Kannada means 'Falls. ' This has a reference in the language of Kannada speakers living in Sahyadri region. It is said to be a derivative of Kannada word 'Javagu', meaning marsh (wet)

Jog Falls is a waterfall on the Sharavati river located in the Western Ghats of Sagar Taluk of Shivamogga District, Karnataka, India. Also known by alternative names of Gerusoppe Falls, Gersoppa Falls, and Jogada Gundi, it is one of the highest waterfalls in India. During monsoons, one can see a breath-taking view of the falls with rainbows coming every now and then.

  1. How to reach Jog Falls?

The nearest airport is at Hubli (130km), whereas the nearest railway station is at Sagara (30km), the nearest city to the Jog Falls. Bus services are also available from the Falls right till the Sagara bus station.

There is also a train from Mumbai to Honnavar. There are no buses directly to Jog Falls from Honnavar. Hence, catch busses that go to Sagar/Shimoga and get down at Talaguppa. At Talaguppa (small village) you may hire private car or catch buses that go to Jog Falls.

  1. How many steps to Jog Falls?

Jog Falls is situated amid thick evergreen forests and water flows in four different falls, like Raja, Roarer, Rocket and Rani. 1500 steps have been built by the tourism department in order to make visitors reach the bottom of the hill.

The months of June till September witness heavy rainfall in the region. The monsoon season is the best season to visit Jog falls, as the beauty of the place is enhanced during monsoons.

  1. Is there anything apart from Jog Falls to explore?

Associated with the waterfall is the nearby Linganamakki Dam across the Sharavati River. The power station has been operational since 1948 and is of 120 MW capacity, one of the largest hydroelectric stations in India at that time and a small source of electric power for Karnataka now.

Also, close to the falls, there is Murudeshwara Temple with the highest Shiva statue adjoining a beach that soothes your soul.

Yes, it is very safe to go there on your own as well because it is well connected from the major cities around the state.

Jog Falls is situated on the borders of Shimoga and North Kanara, 100 Kms from Shimoga city. The Western Ghats gives rise to the Sharavati river that plunges from a height of 829 feet in four magnificent cascades namely Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket.

The government authorities have made improvements for parking facilities at the campus, proper path to enable travellers to enjoy the place.

If you are traveling with Senior Citizens, differently abled people, toddlers, babies or pregnant women then you can enjoy the views of Jog falls from the viewing platform without the need to take the stairs to the foot of the falls.

Consuming liquor or any kind of Alcoholic substance is prohibited. Carrying any kind of substance that’s illegal is not allowed. Smoking is strictly not allowed. Anybody found smoking or consuming alcoholic drinks will be expelled from the event without refund. Fitness & Health – Though trekking is a fun-filled activity, it demands good amount of physical fitness. If you are under medication, please carry your medicines. During the trek, leaders will have over the counter medication for temporary treatment, so do give a heads up to them if you need any medical assistance.
