Itinerary

Day 1 – Guwahati to Wari Chora (220 km | 6–7 hrs)

The journey begins as you leave Guwahati behind and head deep into the remote Garo Hills — a side of Meghalaya that very few travellers get to experience.

En route, explore Suji Cave, a fascinating natural cave hidden amidst the hills. Continue through winding roads, forested landscapes and remote villages before arriving at Wari Chora, one of Meghalaya’s most spectacular hidden gems.

Check in to your riverside stay and slow down as the wilderness takes over. Spend the evening by the river, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and untouched nature.

Overnight: Wari Chora

Day 2 – Wari Chora 4x4 Wilderness Expedition

Today, Wari Chora reveals its wild side.

Set out in a 4x4 and venture deep into the surrounding wilderness, navigating rugged trails, forest tracks, riverbeds and remote valleys inaccessible to regular vehicles.

Discover hidden canyons, dramatic rock formations and secluded viewpoints as you explore this extraordinary landscape. Enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch amidst the wilderness before continuing the expedition.

Return to Wari Chora by evening and spend some unhurried time beside the river, taking in the silence and raw beauty of the Garo Hills.

Overnight: Wari Chora

Day 3 – Wari Chora to Mawkyrwat (180 km | 6–7 hrs)

Leave the wild Garo Hills behind and journey towards the emerald landscapes of the Khasi Hills.

The highlight of the day is a visit to a spectacular Natural Infinity Pool, tucked away amidst lush green hills. Take a refreshing dip in its pristine waters and enjoy a moment of complete solitude surrounded by nature.

Continue to Mawkyrwat, a beautiful and lesser-explored corner of Meghalaya, and settle into your stay amidst the tranquil Khasi countryside.

Overnight: Mawkyrwat

Day 4 – Mawkyrwat to Mawlyngbna (100 km | 3–4 hrs)

Continue towards Mawlyngbna, one of Meghalaya’s most scenic and wonderfully offbeat destinations.

En route, stop at the Natural Hot Springs, a unique experience amidst the rural landscapes of Meghalaya.

Arrive in Mawlyngbna by afternoon and let the rest of the day unfold at your own pace. Relax at the property, wander around the village or join the locals for a friendly game of Football with the Locals.

As the sun begins to set, head to a viewpoint overlooking the vast plains of Bangladesh. Watch the Sunset overlooking Bangladesh as the landscape slowly changes colour.

Overnight: Mawlyngbna

Day 5 – Mawlyngbna: Canyons, Caves & Fossils

Today is your adventure playground.

Begin with an exhilarating River Canyoning experience, navigating through natural rock formations and crystal-clear streams. Continue underground to explore the fascinating Mawlyngbna Caves, followed by the Fossil Trail, where the landscape reveals its remarkable geological past.

After a morning of adventure, slow things down. Take a Kayak onto the peaceful lake, paddle through the calm waters or simply relax and enjoy the extraordinary surroundings.

Overnight: Mawlyngbna

Day 6 – Mawlyngbna to Cherrapunjee (90 km | 3–4 hrs)

Begin the morning with a short walk to Mawryngkhong — an offbeat alternative to the famous and often chaotic Dawki. Here, the experience is quieter, more intimate and far removed from the crowds, while still offering spectacular landscapes.

Continue to the Mini Wari Chora Canyon, a hidden gorge featuring dramatic cliffs and a raw, untouched landscape reminiscent of the original Wari Chora.

Later, drive towards Cherrapunjee, entering one of the most dramatic landscapes in Meghalaya. If the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom, keep an eye out for the seasonal bursts of pink and white along the route.

Check in and unwind amidst the misty Khasi Hills.

Overnight: Cherrapunjee

Day 7 – Offbeat Cherrapunjee to Shillong (55 km | 2–3 hrs)

Today, experience Cherrapunjee beyond its famous viewpoints and tourist crowds.

Set out on a trek towards the Mouth of Nohkalikai Falls, descending into the landscape to experience Meghalaya’s iconic waterfall from a completely different perspective.

Later, discover the beautiful and lesser-known Punglyer Falls before continuing towards Shillong.

As you approach Shillong, November brings the possibility of encountering Cherry Blossoms along the roads and around the city, adding a beautiful seasonal touch to the journey.

Reach Shillong by evening and unwind.

Overnight: Shillong

Day 8 – Shillong to Pobitora (250 km | 7–8 hrs)

Enjoy a relaxed morning exploring Shillong during the beautiful November Cherry Blossom season.

Visit the Don Bosco Museum, offering an immersive glimpse into the diverse cultures and traditions of Northeast India. Later, spend some time at Police Bazaar for shopping and Café Hopping before beginning the drive towards Pobitora.

Descend from the Khasi Hills into the Brahmaputra plains and continue to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

Arrive by evening, check in to your wildlife retreat and relax amidst the wilderness.

Overnight: Pobitora

Day 9 – Pobitora Wildlife Safari to Guwahati (50 km | 1.5 hrs)

Wake up early for your final wildlife adventure.

Choose between an Elephant Safari or Jeep Safari through Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, home to one of the highest densities of the magnificent One-Horned Rhinoceros.

Keep your eyes open for rhinos, wild buffalo, birds and other wildlife as you explore the sanctuary in the early morning light.

Return for breakfast and begin the drive towards Guwahati.

If flight timings permit, make a final visit to the revered Kamakhya Temple before proceeding to the airport.

Depart with nine days of hidden canyons, wild rivers, caves, forests, village life, cherry blossoms, dramatic landscapes and experiences far beyond the usual Meghalaya trail.
